Examples of eye emergencies
The following examples come from ophthalmic practice. This page asks no questions and does not assess your situation — when in doubt, call 144.
- Sudden loss of vision or suddenly distorted vision
- Flashes of light, a shower of dark specks, or a rising shadow in your field of view
- Severe eye pain, including with nausea or vomiting
- Chemical burn or a foreign body in the eye
- Injury to the eye or the eye socket
