Vision
Precise diagnostics, honest treatment, the right decisions.
People who come to us about their eyes want clarity: what is happening to my sight? What actually helps? And what is unnecessary? We examine thoroughly, explain plainly and treat to the highest medical standard — at three locations, with our own day clinics in Zurich and Wetzikon.

Choose your topic
Every page answers the same questions: what do I have? What helps? Who is responsible? What does insurance pay? And: how do I know I should come quickly?

Two ways to find your topic
The cards above are sorted by diagnosis, which helps if you already have one. Most people arrive with a complaint rather than a name, though: an eye that waters, vision as if through fog, a child who screws up their eyes to read. Both routes lead to the same place — here by complaint, with the pages that make sense of each pattern.
By complaint. An eye that has been running for weeks without looking inflamed belongs with watery eyes (epiphora). When pain and light sensitivity dominate rather than redness, the page on corneal diseases is where that pattern is explained. And if your sight has worsened without anything hurting, start at refractive errors, which covers short-sightedness, long-sightedness, presbyopia and astigmatism along with the correction routes open to each.
One pattern takes priority over any sorting: flashes of light, a swarm of new black dots, or a shadow moving in from the side. Call us the same day — outside consulting hours the ophthalmic emergency service applies; contact it, or go directly to the emergency department of an eye clinic. What can lie behind it, and how we examine it, is set out under retina and vitreous.
By stage of life. Children do not report poor sight themselves. What parents can notice instead, and how a first appointment runs, is described under paediatric ophthalmology. If one eye visibly deviates, or you see double, the route leads to strabismus (squint) — in children the question there is visual development, in adults it is the double vision.
And when you notice nothing at all. That is precisely what eye examinations are for: what gets measured, how long an appointment takes, what to bring — and when basic insurance covers it and when it does not.
How we work
One standard, three locations, clear responsibility.
Diagnosis, surgery and aftercare here follow the same medical standard — in Zurich and Wetzikon also in our own category 1 day clinics. Before any procedure it is clear who is responsible, what the alternatives are, and why we recommend a treatment or advise against it.
First consultation & diagnosis
A thorough examination, a diagnosis you can understand, and a recommendation you can check — not a sales offer.
An unhurried decision
An itemised cost breakdown in writing, an honest recommendation, and time to think. If waiting is the better medicine, we say so.
Treatment in our own day clinic
Outpatient, in our own day clinic, with a practised team and an experienced anaesthetist. For operations you are guided into light sedation (propofol) as standard; most people notice nothing of the procedure. That is why you come to an operation fasting.
Follow-up close at hand
Check-ups the next day, after a week — and whenever you are unsure. You reach us without going through a call centre.

View backgroundOur rule on advice
We will also tell you when you do not need an operation — and when the less expensive option is the right one for your eyes. 'I would advise against it' is a complete answer here. How we advise, and what treatments cost.
Your medical team
One medical team, one standard.
So we set out each person's background and focus plainly: not as interchangeable practice profiles, but as a clinical team that holds itself to the same standard of diagnosis, treatment and aftercare.

- What decides it is the reason for your appointment. Where there is a medical one — something that has to be clarified, treated or watched over time — we bill through basic health insurance, and your deductible and co-payment apply as they would in any other practice. Where there is none, you carry the cost yourself: for a check with nothing prompting it, for a certificate an authority, an employer or an insurer asks for, and for purely aesthetic procedures. With children and adolescents that dividing line does not simply carry over: questions of visual development are medical ones even when the child notices nothing — what applies there is set out under «paediatric ophthalmology». Which side your appointment falls on we tell you beforehand and not with the bill; the rules in detail are on the page for your area.
- For an appointment with us, no — you register directly, with no detour through another practice. Your insurance model is the reservation: some prescribe where first contact has to take place. Whether yours does is something your health insurer will tell you, and the page on «eye examinations» goes through the individual models. Referring practices have a route of their own: a referral form as a PDF, registration by telephone or e-mail, appointment coordination by our team and a structured report back. It is described in the menu under «Referring physicians».
- That depends on the reason, which is exactly why we ask on the telephone. Tell us what it is about and since when — anything that will not wait is scheduled differently from a routine follow-up. We can be reached Monday to Friday; the consulting hours for your location are given on that location's page. Outside them, the ophthalmic emergency service or the emergency department of an eye clinic applies. And if you cannot judge for yourself how urgent it is, that is not a reason to wait — it is the reason to call. Judging it is our job, not yours.
- We are in Zurich, Wetzikon and Meilen. Assessment, consultation and follow-up checks take place at all three — as a rule at whichever is the shortest journey for you. Surgery is done in our own day clinics in Zurich and Wetzikon, cataract and lid surgery among it; the aesthetic treatments around the eye we offer in Zurich. Not every procedure belongs in our own house: where your findings call for a specialised centre, we say so when the indication is set and arrange the referral. Which location is the right one for your concern is something we tell you when the appointment is arranged — and if an examination is only possible at one of them, we say so at the same time.
- Your insurance card and, if you have one, the referral letter. More important still is what tends to get left behind: all the glasses you wear, the old pairs included; the list of your medication together with any eye drops; and earlier findings from elsewhere, which spare you an examination you have already had. Write your questions down beforehand — in conversation they are forgotten faster than one expects. Reckon with drops and a dilated pupil: for some hours afterwards reading is laborious and bright light uncomfortable. After dilating drops you therefore do not drive yourself — come by public transport or with someone else; sunglasses make the way home more comfortable. The full list, and whatever else applies to your examination, such as a break from contact lenses before certain measurements, is under «eye examinations» — and we tell you when the appointment is arranged.
